PhD and Postdoctoral Positions Opened at the China-Australia Joint Laboratory for Functional Nanomaterials at Xiamen Uniersity

Several PhD and postdoctoral fellow positions are immediately available in the research group led by Prof. Xianfang Zhu (http://pmee.xmu.edu.cn/tech/zhuxianfang.htm) based in the China-Australia Joint Laboratory for Functional Nanomaterials (CAJLFN) at Xiamen University. The positions were created with the following two projects which are fully funded by 973, NSFC, the China-Australia Special Fund for Scientific & Technological Cooperation and several other sources.

Project I: nanoinstability and nanodevice architecture

The research will be focused on nanoinstabilities and nanoprocessing of low dimensional nanostructures such as nanowire, nanotube, and others under irradiation of in-situ electron beam in TEM. The research will deal with both nanoscience fundamental issues and future nanodevice architectures. Interested candidates with degree in condensed physics or materials science are invited to apply for the position. The background with TEM and nanowire or nanotube CVD growth is preferred.

Project II: nanofabrication and biosensor

The research will be focused on nanofabrication of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) immunosensors for detection of small molecules of bio environmental interest. The research will deal with nanocoreshell fabrication, 2D nano patterning, SPR, nanostructure surface molecular decoration, and indirect competitive inhibition assay (surface regeneration and detection). Interested candidates with solid background in biophysics/physics/material science are all encouraged to apply. An appropriate research experience in the area(s) directly related to the project is plus.

The China-Australia Joint Laboratory for Functional Nanomaterials (CAJLFN) was established in collaboration with the Australia Research Council Center of Excellence for Functional Nanomaterial (http://arccfn.org.au/) with the China-Australia Special Fund for Scientific & Technological Cooperation provided by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training. The CAJLFN conducts interdisciplinary research at the forefront of science and engineering of functional nanomaterials with collaborations worldwide. The CAJLFN brings together world-class faculty and students in condensed matter physics; materials science; materials chemistry; biology and life science; mechanical engineering; and electrical, information, and computer engineering in a highly collaborative research environment. The laboratory is fully equipped with modern nano characterization facilities as well as advanced nano growth, nano fabrication, and nano processing facilities. The laboratory also has immediate access to the state-of-the-art electron microscopy instrumentation on the campus.
