RESEARCH ENGINEER/STAFF






The Micro and Nano Technology Research (MNTR) Group at Northwestern University is seeking to fill a research engineer position.






The MNTR group conducts research in micro and nanofabrication technology, MEMS, sensors, and biologically inspired sensing. The group recently moved from the University of Illinois (Urbana) and is looking to expand. Current projects include artificial haircell sensors, artificial lateral line sensors, tactile sensing skin, wireless sensor networking, MEMS, dip pen nanofabrication, and lab-on-chip protein detection. The technologies are applied in various commercial, medical, and military applications. For details, google chang liu.






Responsibilities of the engineer/staff member may include:



? Design and fabrication of sensors and MEMS



? Characterization of sensors and sensor-enabled system platforms



? Instrumentation and electro-mechanical system development, digital and analog circuit design, mechanical design, prototyping



? Preparation of reports and proposals



? Training






Desired characteristics of a successful candidate include:



? M.S./Ph.D. degree in engineering or related field



? Past experiences of research in ME/EE/Materials/Physics



? Excellent writing and communication skills



? Proactive, dynamic, and creative researcher

The MNTR group conducts research in micro and nanofabrication technology, MEMS, sensors, and biologically inspired sensing. The group recently moved from the University of Illinois (Urbana) and is looking to expand. ? Design and fabrication of microfluid devices and hand-held systems that use molecular biological assays



? Design/perform molecular biodetection assays on the lab-on-chip and bench top



? Nanopatterning and functionalization using biomolecules



? Preparation of reports and proposals






Desired characteristics of a successful candidate include:



? Ph.D. degree in chemistry or biology



? Past experiences in conducting research in chemistry, biology (molecular biology), medicine, or materials



? Excellent writing and communication skills



? Proactive, dynamic, and creative researcher

The MNTR group conducts research in micro and nanofabrication technology, MEMS, sensors, and biologically inspired sensing. The group recently moved from the University of Illinois (Urbana) and is looking to expand. Current projects include artificial haircell sensors, artificial lateral line sensors, tactile sensing skin, wireless sensor networking, MEMS, dip pen nanofabrication, and lab-on-chip protein detection. Many projects possibilities are possible, including scientific discovery and application development. The group is interdisciplinary. Its projects covers MEMS, nanofabrication, integrated circuits, animal biology, chemistry, new materials, sensing skin, instrumentation, and fluid mechanics. Students with many different background and interest may apply.





Though the group hires in any of the general areas, we have critical needs in the following:



? Flow sensing skin and fluid mechanics (MS or PhD objective)



? Medical applications of sensors (MS or PhD)



? Scanning probe nanofabrication tools and methods (PhD)



? Networked sensors and applications (MS or PhD)



? Energy related projects (PhD objective)
